More Than 28 Percent Decrease in the Export of Iranian Saffron in 2022
The export of Iranian saffron decreased by more than 28 percent in terms of weight in 2022 compared to 2021. The average price of each kilogram of Iranian saffron for export has grown by 88 percent in 2022, which has increased the Dollar value of Iranian saffron for export compared to 2021.
The export of Iranian saffron declined significantly in terms of weight in 2022 compared to 2021. According to the Iran customs statistics, 219,279 kilograms of Iranian saffron were exported in 2022. However, 307,468 kilograms of Iranian saffron were exported in 2021. The export of Iranian saffron dropped by more than 28.5 percent in terms of weight in 2022 compared to the previous year.
Despite the decrease in the export of saffron in terms of weight, the export Dollar value of this product has risen in 2022 compared to 2021 due to the significant growth of the price of saffron in 2022 in the domestic market of Iran and the international markets. The export Dollar value of Iranian saffron was 205,612,609 USD in 2022. However, it was 153,603,230 USD in 2021. This number represents a growth of about 34 percent in the export Dollar value of this product in 2022 compared to 2021. The average price of each kilogram of Iranian saffron for export has increased by 88 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. It has reached 938 USD from 499 USD.
Compared to the beginning of 2023, the exchange rate of foreign currencies against the Rial increased by more than 25 percent. This issue caused a decrease of about 1 to 4 percent in the price of this product in the world markets compared to the beginning of this year, despite the sharp increase in the price of Iranian exported saffron in the past weeks in the domestic market of Iran. The highest price reduction was related to Nagin saffron exported from Iran, and the lowest price reduction was related to Poushal saffron for export.
