Fenugreek Prices Soar Due To Decreased Production In India

Fenugreek, a popular spice and medicinal herb in India, is experiencing a surge in demand and price due to decreased production.

Despite being the season for fenugreek, there has been a reduction in its arrival, resulting in small traders cutting prices to get rid of their stock. The shortage of old stock in shops is causing prices to increase gradually in Madhya Pradesh's shops in the last week alone, and the trend is expected to continue.

Most of the fenugreek produced in India comes from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. The fenugreek sowing season is between November and December, with sporadic arrivals starting in March and complete availability by April. However, this year there has been a decrease of about 17-18% in the area cultivated for fenugreek, causing farmers to focus on coriander and cumin instead.

Price gap rising

Those who require fenugreek for medicinal and commercial use, order it from Pratapgarh and Nimbahera in Rajasthan, Jaipur line, and parts of Madhya Pradesh. It has resulted in the price gap rising. Despite the hefty price tag, demand for fenugreek remains high, with an uptake in seed sales.

However, experts note there is no possibility of a long-term surge, and the current trend is expected to last for the next one or two days. As such, those in the industry are advised to act fast and make the most of the current market conditions. The business of fenugreek is proving to be very profitable due to reduced production, resulting in high demand and price surges.

The ^fenugreek seeds 99 prices were recorded at $0,91 per kg FOB.
