Poland Reduced Grain Production in 2023

Poland, which is one of the leading agricultural producers in the European Union, may slightly reduce grain production in 2023 due to unfavorable weather conditions and the resulting high soil moisture. At the same time, the rapeseed harvest is estimated at 3.7 million tons, which is 1% higher than the previous year's result.

According to official statistics, the total grain production in Poland will decrease by 1% compared to last year's figure - to 35.2 million tons.

As specified, this year the total sown area is 7.1 million hectares, including:

  • 2.4 million hectares under wheat,
  • 700 thousand hectares under rye,
  • 600 thousand hectares under barley,
  • 500 thousand hectares under oats,
  • 1.2 million hectares under triticale.
The harvest of major grain crops in the country amounted to 26.1 million tons, which is 3% less than last year. In particular, winter grain production is estimated at 21.9 million tons, which is 1% less than in the previous year, while the spring crop is estimated at 4.2 million tons (-14% year-on-year).
