Kazakhstan Safflower Harvest Down by 45%
In Kazakhstan, the harvest of all oilseeds, including safflower, has decreased this season. The gross harvest of safflower seed in Kazakhstan in 2023 was 242.2 thousand tonnes, 45% lower than in the previous year (447.5 thousand tonnes), according to the final data from official statistics.
The yield of this oilseed fell from 0.71 t/ha in 2022 to 0.62 t/ha in 2023.
The harvested area of safflower in the Republic of Kazakhstan was only 389.8 thousand hectares (against 633.4 thousand hectares in 2022). At the same time, according to the National Statistics Office, unfavourable weather conditions in Kazakhstan in 2023 led to crop losses of this oilseed on an area of about 65 thsd ha.
