Ukraine Targets 20% Growth in Peas as Export Markets Open

According to expectations, the growth of sown areas under peas in 2024 may be up to 20% in Ukraine. This was announced by the president of the Community of Bean Producers and Consumers, Antonina Sklyarenko. She took part in Pulses Conclave 2024, which took place in the Indian New Delhi the other day. According to Ms. Sklyarenko, most of Ukrainian farmers are already planning their spring sowing campaign with corrections for areas under pulses. The production of niche pulses for Ukraine like chickpeas, lentils or beans will hardly increase. We speak mainly about yellow peas.

Firstly, this is connected with the opening of the Chinese market for Ukrainian peas. Secondly, it is connected with the improvement of export possibilities and possible extension of the permission to export Ukrainian peas to India.

It should be noted, that on February 21st India has already extended the import time of Yellow Peas which had to finish on 31st March 2024. Now in respect of the said goods, the import time is prolonged according to the Bill of Lading issued on or before the 30th of April, 2024.

Purchasing prices, which were slowly falling down during the last two weeks, will definitely return to January levels. And considering that stocks in Ukraine are already quite limited, the growth may be even sharper this time.
