Impact of Frost on Turkish Raisin Industry: Decreased Exports and Rising Prices

The damage caused to the vineyards by the frost experienced in the past weeks in Türkiye is slowly emerging. Last week, we frequently heard the news of damaged vineyards from farmers. As the damage news continues to come, raw material prices continue to rise. Raw material number 8 raisins was sold for 87 TL or €2,51. The fact that number 10 grapes are almost sold out and number 9 grapes are becoming increasingly scarce has caused grape number 8 to increase in terms of price and buyers.

In this period when the vineyards started to awaken, chambers of agriculture started warning farmers about spraying to combat the disease that occurs before flowering. Performing the necessary pesticide application is very important for the harvest quality and quantity of grapes.

Türkiye's 10-day holiday has stirred up the local market a bit. Farmers who needed cash due to the holiday put their grapes on sale. Of course, this 10-day holiday will stagnate exports a little.
