In the heart of India, Cumbum Valley stands out. It's a leading figure in grape farming. This region specializes in Muscat Hamburg grapes, locally named “panneer thiratchai”. Impressively, it contributes to 85% of India's grape production.  Furthermore, in Tamil Nadu, this grape variety dominates. It accounts for about 90% of the grape yield. Specifically, the Theni district shines in this regard.

The Muscat Hamburg grape is notable for its quick growth. Additionally, it matures early. This ensures its availability throughout the year. The Faces Behind the Fields

Pon Katchi Kannan plays a pivotal role. He's the president of the Periyar Vaigai Irrigation Farmers Association. Additionally, he coordinates the Kaamayam Thiratchai Vivasayigal Sangam.Kannan highlights the panneer variety's widespread cultivation. It spans 5,000 acres and includes 10 villages. Remarkably, nearly 90% of Tamil Nadu's grape production is in Theni. This success is thanks to over 300 dedicated farmers.

The climate and soil in the area are perfect for the Muscat variety. This allows for continuous harvesting of panneer grapes. This capability is unique to Cumbum Valley. In other Indian regions, grape harvesting is seasonal. Typically, it happens from January to April. This distinction underscores Cumbum Valley's importance. It's not just a local hub but a national treasure. The valley demonstrates the potential of dedicated agriculture. Moreover, it highlights the impact of regional specialties on the global stage.
