Cumin Market Stabilizes Despite Reduced Arrivals in Major Producing Regions

Cumin Market Stabilizes Despite Reduced Arrivals in Major Producing Regions

Unchanged Cumin Prices Despite Lower Supply

The arrival of new cumin in the markets of Gujarat and Rajasthan, the major producing provinces, is currently below normal levels. Despite this decrease, there is no significant rise in cumin prices. Due to reduced trading activity among December traders, local dealers, stockists, and exporters.

Buyer Sentiment and Stock Patterns

Currently, buyers are showing restraint due to optimistic production forecasts. This cautious approach has resulted in a lack of urgency to stock up on cumin. Previously, the daily average arrival at the Ujha Mandi in Gujarat was around 20-22 thousand bags. This number has now dropped to 16-17 thousand bags. Although a price increase was anticipated due to the reduced arrivals, so far, no clear signs of such a rise have materialized.

Regional Production and Pricing Strategies

In Rajasthan, producers are expected to receive cumin seeds shortly, which might lead to a slight price increase. Consequently, they are holding back their stocks, which further reduces market arrivals. Despite these dynamics, cumin prices have recently decreased by approx USD 2,40. Unjha Mandi remains the principal commercial center for cumin, where, due to robust production in Gujarat, the average daily arrival has surged to between 60-70 thousand bags.

Market Trends and International Demand

The peak season for the supply of new cumin is ongoing, yet the spot market has not seen much support from futures. Following Ramadan, the demand for cumin has slightly weakened in Gulf countries and Bangladesh. However, demand is anticipated to rise from countries like China and Malaysia in the near future.

Despite the reduced arrivals and current stabilization of prices, the cumin market holds a complex position with potential fluctuations influenced by international demand and regional production forecasts.
