Turkish Dried Apricot Harvest Threatened by Unforeseen Weather Events

Turkish Dried Apricot Harvest Threatened by Unforeseen Weather Events

Dried apricots are having a hard time. In Türkiye, where the rainy weather was effective at the weekend, Malatya also received its share. While the rain was expected, heavy hail caused the unripe fruits on the trees to fall and injure the remaining ones. Extremely sad farmers were surprised once again with the unexpected snowfall on Monday. Trees were buried under snow. Farmers have not yet gotten over the shock they experienced. It is not yet clear how the effects of hail and subsequent snowfall will affect the harvest. It will only become clear after the snow melts. Temperatures have started to increase again and no precipitation other than rain is expected for this week. These sudden and unexpected rains are expected to cause an increase in the prices of dried apricots, which tend to decrease, first in the local market and then in exports, but since no one knows anything for sure yet, they do not want to give prices.
