Turkish Dried Fig Production and Market Outlook Amid Variable Weather Conditions
The decrease in air temperatures compared to seasonal norms last week slowed down the early development of figs a little, and next week the temperatures are rising again, but it does not pose a danger to figs. While everything seems normal for the new season's harvest so far, farmers are still cautious. They are waiting for pollination time. The amount of male figs will significantly affect the harvest. However, the predictions for the new season are lower than last year.
During last week's International Nut and Dried Fruit Congress in Vancouver, preliminary forecasts for Turkish dried fig production were published. The estimate is 80,000 mt, which would represent an increase of 20% on last year, but falls short of the traditional forecast of 90,000 mt at this time of year.
Although exports to European countries have slowed down this season due to very high prices, exporters with connections to the Middle East and Russia are happy with the situation and continue to export with the stocks they have despite the season almost ending.
There are no changes in price expectations for the coming weeks. It seems high prices will continue.
