Turkish Dried Apricot Market Faces Turmoil Amidst Yield Uncertainty and Price Volatility

Turkish Dried Apricot Market Faces Turmoil Amidst Yield Uncertainty and Price Volatility

Dried apricots have seen interesting price changes this season in Türkiye. The lack of yield in the last two years has put dried apricots at risk of losing the European market. Low yields during the season and weather conditions that could affect the new season caused dried apricots to go on sale in high numbers. As the season approaches the end of the season, the return of weather conditions to normal, the prediction that the new season's harvest may reach high levels, and the low demand due to high prices, put farmers in a panic mood. The farmers, who were worried that their old crop stocks would not be sold, put their products on sale at low prices. The decrease in prices for the last 3 weeks does not actually make the farmers happy at all.

Malatya Chamber of Agriculture calls for the resignation of the Stock Exchange President because the stock market is not on the side of the farmers.

Farmers want TMO to purchase at a minimum price of 200 TL or 5,72 € in the 2024 season. Although this does not seem possible in the current situation, the actual prices will become clearer after the harvest of fresh apricots begins in mid-June.

Exporters do not want to make purchases beyond their needs for now due to the decrease in prices.

The price expectation is that it will decrease further in the coming weeks.
