Ginger Prices Remain Strong Despite Seasonal Changes

Summer Season's Impact on Ginger Prices

Reduced Arrivals from Bangalore Affect Delhi Market Prices

Even after the summer season has started, ginger prices remain higher than normal. A slight decrease in its arrival has been noted recently. Saunth, the dried form of ginger, is expected to remain strong in the coming days. Wise readers keep getting the latest information about the rise and fall of Saunth, benefiting from timely updates. As the summer season continues in most parts of the country, the sale of Saunth has slowed down. However, the demand for ginger and Saunth typically increases in the winter season. The increasing temperature has caused the arrival of ginger from Bangalore to decrease in Delhi's wholesale market. Consequently, the price of ginger in Delhi has recently increased by $0,024-0,036 and is now $1,50-1,56 per kilogram. Earlier, there was a similar softening trend in the market.

Ginger and Saunth Market Trends

High Prices and Limited Availability Drive Market Dynamics

Earlier this year, the price of ginger reached a record-breaking level of $2,40-2,70 per kilogram. The attractive price led farmers to sell almost their entire ginger crop. Recently, the wholesale price of ginger in Kochi jumped to a new high of $2,40 per kilogram. Due to weaker-than-normal arrivals and availability, ginger is not available to make dry ginger, leading to higher prices. The arrival and availability from producing states remain weak, and stockists have increased their sales of dry ginger. Since the beginning of new dry ginger arrivals in Kochi, there hasn't been significant pressure on the market.

The main reason for the rise in ginger prices is that producers sold about 90-95 percent of their crop at attractive prices. After a recent rise of $18-24 per quintal in Saunth, and an additional $6 increase due to stockist buying, it currently stands at $462-468 per quintal. Although there was a $12 decline earlier, sporadic arrivals of new Saunth in Kerala have kept prices high. It was reported that negligible arrivals in Kochi increased the price by $0,12-0,18, currently at $4,80-5,04 per kilogram. Saunth is expected to remain strong in the coming days due to these market dynamics.

Ginger prices remain elevated despite the onset of the summer season, with limited arrivals and strong demand supporting higher rates. The reduced availability of fresh ginger and increased sales of dry ginger by stockists are key factors driving this trend. As market dynamics evolve, Saunth is expected to maintain its strength in the coming days.
