India Remains Key Market for Vietnamese Star Anise
India continued to dominate as the primary market for Vietnamese star anise exports, importing 951 tonnes in May, representing 61% of the total exported volume. According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Vietnam exported 1,560 tonnes of star anise in May, generating around $7.2 million, a 5.4% increase from April. This raised the five-month export total to 5,475 tonnes, with a turnover of $27.5 million, reflecting a 14.7% decrease in volume and a 29.9% decline in turnover compared to the same period last year.Major Importers of Vietnamese Star Anise
India emerged as the largest consumer of Vietnamese star anise, importing 3,360 tonnes. The United States and Bangladesh followed, with imports of 399 tonnes and 140 tonnes, respectively. India leads globally in consuming cinnamon and anise products and is also a major producer of medicinal herbs. Vietnam currently dominates the Indian market, accounting for over 80% of its cinnamon and anise imports.A Leading Producer with Diverse Export Markets
Vietnam boasts an anise growing area of about 40,000 hectares, primarily in Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces in the north, with an annual output exceeding 16,000 tonnes. The country is a global powerhouse in spice exports. Ranking first in pepper and cinnamon exports and second in star anise exports. Vietnamese spices have increasingly diverse import markets, including the United States, the EU, China, India, and the Middle East.Vietnam's dominance in the star anise market, particularly in India, underscores its significant role in global spice exports. With strong production capabilities and diverse export markets, Vietnam continues to be a leading player in the international spice trade.
