Fenugreek Prices Expected to Rise: Due to Lower Production and Export Demand
Current Fenugreek Prices and Production Insights
Fenugreek is primarily produced in regions like Jodhpur, Pratapgarh, Bikaner in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and parts of Madhya Pradesh such as Javra, Mandsaur, and Neemuch. Currently, its consumption is robust, but extreme heat and reduced demand during the pickle season have slightly lowered prices compared to last year. Despite these challenges, there is an expectation of a price increase in the near future.According to Sanjay Kumar Ashok Kumar, a firm based in Kota Mandi, fenugreek is being sold at $0,65-$0,66 per kg in wholesale in Ramganj Mandi. Two months ago, when new stock arrived, prices opened at $0,68-$0,69 per kg. The old stock is limited, and production this year is estimated to be 20% lower than last year, suggesting potential for price increases.
Expected Price Increase Due to Export Demand
Vinod Kumar from Jawara Mandi notes the likelihood of increased export demand post-monsoon. This could drive prices up by $0,048-$0,060 per kg. Currently, fenugreek prices are $0,66-$0,72 per kg. When new stock arrived in March, prices were at $0,75-$0,78 per kg. Overall, there is a strong possibility of price increases in the future. In Pratapgarh Mandi, Rajasthan, new fenugreek arrived in March with prices initially stable. This year's mango production is also lower, reducing pickle consumption by 20%. Fenugreek consumption will continue until mid-July, and old stock in Pratapgarh Mandi is minimal, adding to the potential for a price rise.Regional Insights and Stock Levels
Karmveer Yadav from Ghaziabad Mandi reports current fenugreek prices at $0,78-$0,81 per kg. When new stock arrived in March, prices were around $0,72 per kg. Some farmers are holding onto their stock. Given the export demand, a rise of $0.060-$0.084 per kg could occur at any time.A trader from Delhi Mandi notes that mango production is not satisfactory this year, which would typically lead to a price increase of $0,12-$0,18 per kg by now. Over the past decade, Delhi mainly received fenugreek from Bikaner, but now it is grown more widely. This diversification may prevent a long-term price surge.
The fenugreek market is experiencing varied impacts from regional production and demand trends. Despite current price stability, reduced production and expected export demand post-monsoon suggest a price increase. Traders should remain cautious and stay informed about regional developments.
