The Increase in Electricity Prices in Türkiye Also Affected Raisins

The Increase in Electricity Prices in Türkiye Also Affected Raisins

The 30 percent increase in agricultural electricity prices in Türkiye affected grape farmers as well as other products. Due to the high temperatures this year and the dry season, the need for irrigation is high, and irrigation using electricity will greatly affect farmers' costs. The chambers of agriculture expressed their reactions to this issue and made statements in the press that the increase should be withdrawn, otherwise there would be a lot of damage to agricultural production.

There has been no response to these reactions yet, it will become clearer in the coming weeks. However, if the price hike is not withdrawn, the raisin market, where costs and market prices are currently quite high, may appear with record export prices in the new season. The increase in inflation will put even more pressure on farmers and exporters in the coming months if the dollar price does not rise. The increase in market prices causes importers to act cautiously. Old crop grapes are on sale for 3500 USD per ton, but they cannot find buyers. Current prices are around 4000 USD, but it is too early to say anything about the new season, and the prices are expected to be announced on August 1.

England, the largest importer of raisins, purchased 47 thousand tons annually as of last week, and the average price is 2185 USD. What will happen in the new season is eagerly awaited.
