No Scope for Further Decline in Moong Prices in the Near Future

No Scope for Further Decline in Moong Prices in the Near Future

Summer Moong Arrivals Impact Prices

Summer moong is arriving from all states, leading to a significant decline in prices over the past 15 days due to very low sale of pulses. However, there is no scope for further decline as the pressure of arrivals in the markets is expected to reduce. The pressure of old moong had reduced significantly, but since last month, moong has been arriving from states like UP, Bihar, Bengal, Orissa, and Madhya Pradesh, causing panic selling among stockists. As a result, prices have dropped by $0,48-$0,60 per kg, now ranging between $0,93-$1,00 per kg depending on quality. Despite this, pulse mills are starting to get a hold on these reduced prices.

No Further Decline Expected

We believe that the sale of peeled and washed dal is decreasing, but there is no possibility of further decline in moong prices from any province. For instance;
  • 3 kg conditioned moong from Madhya Pradesh has dropped by $0,24 to $0,99-$1,00 per kg,
  • 5 kg conditioned moong has fallen to $0,95-$0,96 per kg.
  • Additionally, moong from UP, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Orissa is now selling between $0,92-$0,95 per kg based on color and dust.
  • The price of old moong from Rajasthan has decreased to $0,91-$0,95 per kg, with some good quality goods quoted at $1,00 per kg. Buyers are now starting to purchase at these lower prices.

Increased Demand Expected to Stabilize Market

Last October, a syndicate of Karnataka traders created a huge boom in the moong season in Rajasthan, which traders have not yet been able to match. New moong is now arriving from all provinces, and with extra consumption due to marriages in a week, prices have strengthened by $0,12-$0,18 per kg based on quality. Moong is produced in both Kharif and Rabi seasons, with last year's production at 3.8 million metric tons and this year's estimated at 4.6 million metric tons. State-wise crops will face pressure for another month, and the government has started sporadic purchases at the minimum support price. The pressure of moong arrivals had increased in Madhya Pradesh recently but has decreased over the past two days, indicating no further price decline. Stocks in dal mills are low, and the sale of washed and peeled dal is improving. Therefore, trading in the current slowdown is not advisable.

The current market conditions suggest that there is no scope for further decline in moong prices. With reduced pressure from new arrivals and improving demand, prices are expected to stabilize or even rise slightly. Traders and stockists should consider these factors when making purchasing decisions.Meta Description
