Market Stability of Ginger and Saunth In The Middle Of Weather Changes

Market Stability of Ginger and Saunth In The Middle Of Weather Changes

Current Weather Impact on Ginger Prices

Recent rains in India have brought down temperatures, but humidity remains high. Despite these weather changes, the ginger market has shown remarkable stability. In contrast, the price of Saunth, or dry ginger, has declined in major producing areas. As a result, no significant increase in Saunth prices is expected in the near future. For exporters and traders, it is crucial to stay informed about the fluctuations in Saunth's prices. The monsoon season has now begun to affect northern Indian states, including the capital, Delhi. Despite the rains reducing temperatures, the humidity levels remain high, affecting the market. The demand for Saunth has remained sluggish during this period.

Increase in Ginger Supply

In Delhi's wholesale fruit and vegetable market, the arrival of ginger from Bangalore has increased. This influx has led to a decline in ginger prices. Previously, ginger prices had surged, reaching a record high. This spike in prices led farmers to sell nearly their entire ginger crop. In Kochi, the wholesale price of ginger had recently soared. This price hike was due to lower-than-normal arrivals and availability. Consequently, ginger became scarce for producing dry ginger. The weaker-than-normal supply and higher temperatures have led to increased sales of dry ginger by stockists.

Saunth Market Analysis

The arrival of new dry ginger in the Kochi market has not been sufficient to put significant pressure on prices. The main reason for the rise in ginger prices is attributed to producers selling 90-95 percent of their ginger due to attractive pricing. Despite sporadic arrivals of new dry ginger in Kerala, its price remains high. In Kochi, there has been a negligible arrival of dry ginger, causing a recent price drop. No significant rise in dry ginger prices is anticipated in the coming days.

Exporters should note the stability in the ginger market despite recent weather changes. While Saunth prices remain low, ginger prices have shown resilience due to supply fluctuations. Staying informed about market trends and weather impacts will be crucial for making strategic decisions in the coming months.
