FSSAI Cancels Manufacturing License of Spice Exporters

Regulatory Actions Following International Bans

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Spices Board have increased their activities following the announcement of a ban on the sale of some spice products from two top Indian companies in Singapore and Hong Kong. The FSSAI started collecting spice samples from various cities within India and tested their quality in laboratories. Based on these reports, the FSSAI cancelled the manufacturing licenses of 111 spice producers nationwide, directing them to stop production immediately.

Continued Sampling and Testing of Spice Products

The process of collecting samples and conducting laboratory tests on spice products is ongoing. The manufacturing licenses of additional firms and brands may also face cancellation. The FSSAI is conducting laboratory tests on approximately 4,000 spice product samples across the country, including products from many well-known companies. Out of the 2,200 samples tested so far, 111 did not meet basic quality standards, leading to the cancellation of their manufacturers' licenses.
