Heatwave Threatens Quality of Mountain Figs in Aegean Region
The hot weather that continues to affect the whole country is even more effective in the Aegean region. We are in an important month for dried figs. Dried fig new season products have started to take their place in the markets. Aydın's plain figs, which came to the market earlier this year due to the air temperatures, have started the season, but there are great problems with mountain figs. Figs in the highlands, which are still in the ripening and growing stage, have started to dry due to the extreme temperatures before reaching full maturity.
Farmers are quite worried about this situation. This will affect the quality and price of mountain figs. With the introduction of dried figs to the market, companies have slowly started to give their prices. These prices will become clearer towards September-October, but for dried fig companies that closed the season early this year, it is pleasing that they have received products that they can give to their customers early in terms of businesses returning to the market.
