Will Figs Make Turkish Farmers Happy This Year?
Dried figs have started to take their place in the market in Türkiye. The low prices have started to worry farmers. Tariş announced the price of edible figs as 375 TL - 10,12€ or but set a 5% quota for purchase. This means that Tariş will buy at a high price but very little. Unfortunately, this situation did not make farmers happy, merchants are offering 300 TL or 8,10€ and below.
Since farmers could not make the profit they wanted last year either, they want to make a profit from their products this year. In some regions, figs dried on their branches due to extremely hot weather. Although it did not affect the total harvest much, some landowners made a loss.
Even though a price is given for export, companies are hesitant to make a long-term agreement. The uncertain price situation of the market only responds to immediate urgent exports. It seems that this uncertainty will continue until the end of August.
