Sunflower Yields Fall in Ukraine: How Will It Impact Global Exports?
Experts, taking into account the low yield, have reduced the forecast for sunflower production in Ukraine to 14.2 million tons. It will be 6% lower than last year according to Apk Inform.
As of September 9, Ukrainians have harvested 1.4 million tons of sunflower. They completed 16% of the area with a yield of 1.78 tons/ha. Last year the yield was 1.86 tons/ha at the start of harvesting.According to Oil World estimates, in 2024/25, due to a reduction in production, global sunflower exports will not exceed 2.36 million tons. Last year it was 2.69 million tons. It will be the lowest export in the last 9 years.
Thus, compared to the previous season, sunflower exports from;
- the EU will decrease from 460 to 330 thousand tons.
- Moldova - from 470 to 340 thousand tons.
- Ukraine - from 310 to 130 thousand tons.
- Only exports from Kazakhstan will increase from 190 to 250 thousand tons.
However, further growth in sunflower prices will be limited by a decrease in world quotations for vegetable oils.
This week Ukrainian sunflower oil producers are giving 19000-19500 UAH/T with delivery to their plants.
