Vietnam's Coconut Exports Set for Remarkable Growth with China Trade Deal

Vietnam's Coconut Exports Set for Remarkable Growth with China Trade Deal

Vietnam Set for Coconut Export Growth

Vietnam’s coconut exports are on the rise, especially due to a new trade protocol with China. According to Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production, this agreement will allow better access to China’s market. As a result, Vietnam is set to see large-scale growth in exports, which will help the country strengthen its foothold in the global market.

Furthermore, demand for Vietnamese coconuts remains strong in India and the Middle East. Cao Ba Dang Khoa, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Coconut Association, expects exports to hit $250 million this year. Clearly, this significant boost shows the increasing global demand for Vietnam's coconuts.

Vietnam Secures a Top Spot Among Coconut Producers

Vietnam ranks 6th among the top coconut producers globally. The country currently cultivates 200,000 hectares of coconut plantations. In fact, these plantations produce 2.1 million tonnes annually, placing Vietnam in a strong position in the global coconut market.

Looking ahead, Vietnam aims to expand its coconut cultivation area to 195,000 - 210,000 hectares by 2030. Specifically, the Mekong Delta will contribute the most, adding 170,000 - 175,000 hectares. Meanwhile, the coastal south-central region will also contribute 16,000 - 20,000 hectares. Consequently, this expansion will increase both production and exports.

Vietnam Focuses on Sustainable and Innovative Farming

By 2030, over 30% of Vietnam’s coconut-growing areas will adopt Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). This means sustainable farming will ensure improved quality of the crops. Moreover, about 30% of these areas will receive certification for their production standards, increasing global competitiveness.

Additionally, Vietnam is introducing innovative farming techniques like inter-cropping and integrated farming. These strategies will boost land productivity. Nguyen Quoc Manh also highlighted the potential for coconut-growing areas to become eco-tourism destinations. Tourists will have the opportunity to experience garden tours, taste local food, and visit coconut processing facilities. Thus, this unique approach could enhance tourism revenue while boosting the local economy.

Outstanding Vietnam’s Coconut Future

Vietnam's coconut industry is set for strong growth. With expanded market access through China, sustainable farming practices, and growing global demand, the future looks promising. Ultimately, this expansion will benefit the country and strengthen its presence in the global coconut market.
