India’s Fennel Exports Show Impressive Growth in Early 2024
Demand for Fennel Booms in International Markets
India has seen a remarkable rise in fennel exports during the first quarter of 2024-25. This surge, according to the Spices Board of India, is largely due to favorable export prices, keeping demand strong in markets around the world.A Closer Look at Export Numbers
Between April and June 2024, India exported 34,015.78 tonnes of fennel, earning approximately USD 3,71 million. In the same period last year, the country exported 18,573.19 tonnes, bringing in USD 3,39 million. The sharp rise in export volume underscores fennel's growing importance in India's spice trade, although revenue growth has been more modest due to smaller price increases.Fennel Prices Hold Steady
Despite the export surge, fennel prices have not seen a dramatic rise. In the first quarter of 2024-25, the average price of exported fennel was USD 0,44 per kg, compared to USD 0,41 per kg last year. The modest price rise explains why the revenue increase was smaller compared to the rise in export volume. Why Production is So High This Year
Gujarat, one of India’s leading fennel producers, has experienced a strong production season, helping to keep prices stable in the domestic market. The steady supply of fennel has made it an appealing export, fueling global demand for the spice.Concerns Over Future Production
Although exports are strong, experts believe that stable prices may cause some farmers to cut back on fennel planting next season. With less financial incentive to grow fennel, future production could be impacted, leading to tighter supplies in the coming years.Click here to reach our trading platfrom CMBroker
