Ukraine’s Late Crop Harvest Accelerates Amid High Export Demand
Thanks to favorable dry weather, Ukraine’s harvest of late crops is progressing rapidly, with export rates up by 20% compared to last year. The combination of increased harvest volumes and strong global demand is positioning Ukraine’s agricultural sector for a productive season. Rapid Progress in Harvesting Late Crops:
As of September 26, Ukrainian farmers have harvested 34.288 million tons of grain and leguminous crops from 7.95 million hectares, representing 72% of the planned area. In comparison, by the same date last year, only 64% of the area had been harvested, yielding 30.47 million tons. The Ministry of Agriculture reports that the average yield this year stands at 4.31 tons per hectare, slightly below last year’s 4.36 tons per hectare.Breakdown of Crop Harvests:
- Wheat: 22.327 million tons harvested from 100% of the area.
- Barley: 5.536 million tons collected from 100% of the area.
- Corn: 4.72 million tons harvested from 920.7 thousand hectares (23% of the area) with a yield of 5.13 tons per hectare.
- Buckwheat: 115.5 thousand tons collected from 88% of the area with a yield of 1.47 tons per hectare.
- Millet: 147.75 thousand tons harvested from 84% of the area with a yield of 1.9 tons per hectare.
- Sunflower: 6.659 million tons collected from 66% of the area with a yield of 2.04 tons per hectare.
- Rapeseed: 3.457 million tons harvested from 100% of the area with a yield of 2.73 tons per hectare.
- Soybeans: 3.504 million tons collected from 62% of the area with a yield of 2.13 tons per hectare.
- Sugar Beet: 2.459 million tons harvested from 20% of the area with an impressive yield of 47.51 tons per hectare.
Export Growth Continues:
Ukraine’s grain and leguminous crop exports have surged in the 2024/25 marketing year, reaching 10.053 million tons by September 27. Of this, 2.857 million tons were exported in September alone, a significant jump from last year’s 1.752 million tons during the same period. Overall, this year’s exports are 3.4 times higher than the previous year’s pace, driven by high demand, particularly from the EU.Key Increases in Crop Exports:
- Wheat: Increased from 3.115 million tons last year to 5.802 million tons in 2024/25.
- Barley: Grew from 603 thousand tons to 1.253 million tons.
- Rye: Rose from 0.7 thousand tons to 7.5 thousand tons.
- Corn: Marginally increased from 2.599 million tons to 2.734 million tons.
