Malatya Apricot Farmers Face Uncertainty

Malatya Apricot Farmers Face Uncertainty

Malatya, the capital of dried apricots, is going through very stressful days due to prices. The fact that prices are still not at the desired levels has caused panic among farmers. Many farmers are trying to sell their products, which has brought prices down a little. At least for now, this is the case in the domestic market. It is not at the expected levels in exports yet, because prices are high compared to the foreign market. Of course, another factor affecting these export figures is that European buyers are turning to apricots of other origin than Türkiye due to prices.

Some farmers have started to sell their fields. Farmers are waiting for an urgent solution from the state. It is not yet clear how this situation will be reflected in exports in the coming months, the market is still active and unstable. Pruning and maintenance of trees continues in preparation for the new season. Farmers, whose only source of income is apricots, are preparing their apricot gardens for the season in order to get better yields.
