Significant Increase in Nigella Seeds Prices Bombarded The Indian Market!

Further Price Surge Expected in Nigella Seeds

The price of nigella seeds has surged by USD 0,24-0,30 per kg in just a day and a half, driven by strong demand from various industries. This trend is expected to continue, with prices potentially increasing by USD 0,54-0,60 per kg in the coming days. Reports suggest a 40-42% reduction in nigella seeds production across major growing regions. Including Neemuch, Mandsaur, Kumbhraj, Kota, Bara, and Sasaram Rohtas in Bihar. Additionally, old stock is scarce in most markets, contributing to the rapid price rise.

Although the new nigella seeds crop has started arriving, demand from states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand remains strong, keeping prices elevated in producing markets.

Key Factors Behind the Price Rise

Traders highlight that the fish industry consumes large quantities of nigella seeds, which adds to the overall demand. This year, the nigella seeds crop in Bengal has suffered a 50% reduction, exacerbating the supply shortage. Meanwhile, farmers in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have reduced , nigella seeds sowing. Leading to a 38-40% drop in market arrivals compared to last year.

For instance, nigella seeds prices in the Neemuch region, which were around USD 2,40-2,46 per kg at the start of last month, have now surged to USD 2,76-2,88 per kg. Similarly, in Rajasthan, it has been sold in bulk for USD 2,58-2,70 per kg. In Bihar's Sasaram region, buyers from Ranchi and Assam are purchasing goods. This has limited supply and keeping prices high in markets such as Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya.

Rising Demand from the Pickle Industry

The pickle industry is increasingly using nigella seeds, known as Mangarela in some regions, which is driving up demand. The old stock of nigella seeds was already low before the arrival of the new crop. And this supply-demand mismatch has led to a significant price increase over the past month. Current prices of Kalonji, which are hovering around USD 2,76 per kg, are expected to rise further, reaching to USD 3,00-3,12 per kg in the near future.

Conclusion: Nigella Seeds Prices Set to Climb

With reduced production, limited stock, and strong demand from various industries, nigella seeds prices are likely to continue rising. Farmers and traders anticipate that the price, currently at USD 2,76 per kg, could increase to USD 3,00-3,12 per kg as demand continues to outstrip supply.
