Coriander Prices in India Expected to Climb Sky

Coriander Prices in India Expected to Climb Sky

Rajasthan Stands Out in Price Rise

The price of coriander in Rajasthan currently stands at 0,84 USD per kg for Eagle quality and 0,804 USD per kg for Badami quality. According to Mahavir Gupta (a trader), coriander prices are likely to rise by 0,06 to 0,12 USD per kg in the coming weeks. Presently, there are 4,000 sacks arriving daily in Ramganj Mandi, with 1,000 sacks at Kota, and a total of 10,000 sacks across the state. Experts expect this to reduce as demand rises with the festival season approaching. Interestingly, some traders believe market sentiment could shift unexpectedly due to sudden export demand.

The stock of coriander across the country is estimated to be 8 million sacks, with carryover stock projected at 3 to 6 million sacks at the start of the new season. Experts expect sowing to slow down, which will lead to reduced supply in the upcoming season. In Rajasthan, the peak sowing period runs from 15 October to 15 November, although some areas continue until mid-December. Experts expect Gujarat to maintain last year’s yield, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh face a 20% reduction in yield. It’s odd that despite the high demand, farmers are still cautious about sowing more coriander.

Madhya Pradesh is in Queue

In Madhya Pradesh, coriander prices have also been improving, with 5,000 sacks of small coriander seeds arriving daily. The price of Eagle coriander, currently 0,84 USD per kg, is expected to increase by 0,06 to 0,08 USD per kg after Diwali. Experts expect the coriander market to remain stable in the short term. Though some traders think prices may fluctuate depending on how sowing progresses by 15 November. Interestingly, while some expect a rise, others think the market might hold steady for longer than anticipated.

While exports will ramp up by December, it is still uncertain how much coriander will be available for domestic consumption. It's quite curious that, despite high export demand, local farmers seem hesitant to sow additional crops.

Coriander Market Improving But After a Dip

The coriander market has shown improvement, with machine-made coriander priced at 0,924 USD per kg and the sortex variety at 0,918 USD per kg. Prices have increased by 0,04 USD per kg recently, though demand remains lower than expected. In Gujarat, demand is about 10,000 sacks per day, and the stock is estimated to be 5.5 million sacks. There’s a slight possibility of prices dropping by 0,024 USD per kg, despite the limited supply. It’s surprising to see these fluctuations considering the high demand leading up to the festive season.

Conclusion: Coriander Prices Set for Modest Increases

Coriander prices are likely to increase by 0,06 to 0,12 USD per kg as demand rises before and after Diwali. While supply remains adequate for now, reduced sowing and strong export demand for Ramadan could tighten the market in the coming months.
