Agronorte Cooperative Hosts Historic Dispatch Event

The dispatch event, held at the Agronorte Cooperative headquarters, underscored the significance of this milestone for local producers and their families. Agronorte’s General Manager, Rolando Chávez, emphasized the crucial achievement of accessing international markets directly, bypassing intermediaries and empowering local communities.

Overcoming Market Challenges for Regional Producers

Chávez explained that a lack of access to markets has been a persistent barrier for producers in the region. With this direct export, the cooperative marks a substantial step forward, providing new economic opportunities for the families involved in chia production.

Comprehensive Chia Production Process

Chávez detailed the chia production process, from soil preparation and seed selection to pest control and weather management. "This type of export reflects the combined efforts of numerous individuals, from farmers to the cooperative’s administrative and commercial teams," he noted, emphasizing the importance of each step in ensuring a quality product for export.

Expanding Production Capacity with a Second Processing Line

Beyond the immediate success of this export, Agronorte has plans for expanded production capacity. The cooperative is close to completing the installation of a second processing line, a strategic upgrade aimed at improving efficiency in chia production. According to Chávez, the cooperative is acquiring new machinery from various regions to enhance this expanded production line. Additionally, an increase in storage capacity forms part of their growth plan, allowing the cooperative to meet rising demands from both international buyers and local producers.

Moving Towards Industrialization for Greater Value-Added Products

A critical focus for Agronorte’s future is the industrialization of chia. Currently, the cooperative exports chia in its natural form, securing a stable market for its members. However, Chávez shared the cooperative's ambition to add value by developing products that can be industrially transformed. “We are actively working on projects that would enable us to achieve this goal,” he said, indicating that industrialization would not only ensure long-term market stability for members but also increase producers’ income through value-added opportunities.

International Demand for Chia Reflects Rising Interest

With the recent shipment of containers to Dubai, Agronorte sees a promising demand for chia, a superfood gaining popularity in international markets. This achievement is a testament to the growing interest in high-quality, sustainably produced foods and reflects the cooperative's commitment to meeting global standards.
