Ukraine’s Harvest Season Progresses with Strong Yields and High Export Volume

Ukraine Nears Completion of Grain and Pulse Harvests with 45 Million Tons Collected

As of October 24, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agriculture reported that 45.08 million tons of grain and leguminous crops had been harvested from 9.757 million hectares, representing 88% of the planned area. This year’s average yield is 4.62 tons per hectare, slightly lower than last year’s 4.9 tons per hectare yield by October 26.

Late Harvest Updates for Corn, Sunflower, and Other Key Crops

The collection of late-season crops continues with strong results in corn, buckwheat, millet, sunflower, soybeans, and sugar beets:
  • Corn: 15.415 million tons from 2.69 million hectares (67% of planned areas) with a yield of 5.72 tons/ha
  • Buckwheat: 126.9 thousand tons from 87.5 thousand hectares (98%) with a yield of 1.45 tons/ha
  • Millet: 159.45 thousand tons from 85.1 thousand hectares (92%) with a yield of 1.87 tons/ha
  • Sunflower: 9.54 million tons from 4.63 million hectares (94%) with a yield of 2.06 tons/ha
  • Soybeans: 5.621 million tons from 2.47 million hectares (93%) with a yield of 2.27 tons/ha
  • Sugar Beets: 8.26 million tons from 170.6 thousand hectares (66%) with a yield of 4.84 tons/ha

Grain Exports Surge in 2024/25 Marketing Year

According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine exported 13.547 million tons of grain and leguminous crops as of October 25 in the 2024/25 marketing year, a significant increase from 8.562 million tons in the same period last year. October exports alone amounted to 3.099 million tons.

Export breakdown as of October 25 includes:
  • Wheat: 7.459 million tons (1.361 million tons in October)
  • Barley: 1.684 million tons (361 thousand tons in October)
  • Rye: 10.6 thousand tons (3.1 thousand tons in October)
  • Corn: 4.129 million tons (1.365 million tons in October)
Additionally, 24,400 tons of flour were exported, including 5,600 tons in October.

Winter Crop Planting Progress

Winter crop sowing has already covered 5.37 million hectares, including 1.048 million hectares of winter rapeseed and 4.33 million hectares of winter grains:
  • Winter Wheat: 3.8 million hectares
  • Winter Barley: 421.3 thousand hectares
  • Rye: 62.5 thousand hectares
In several regions, winter cereal sowing has reached high completion rates, with Ternopil Oblast achieving 100% of planned areas and Volyn Oblast reaching 97.3%.
