Sunflower Harvest in EU Revised Down Due to Adverse Weather Conditions
Stratégie Grains analysts have revised their forecast for the EU’s 2024/25 sunflower harvest down to 8.8 million tons from the previously expected 8.9 million tons, marking an 11% decrease compared to the 2023/24 season. This downward adjustment is attributed to excessive rainfall, particularly in France, which has negatively impacted crop condition and seed quality.Reduced Yields for Sunflower and Other Oilseeds
The average yield for sunflowers in the EU is expected to drop to 1.8 tons per hectare, down from 2.1 tons per hectare in the previous marketing year. The total area sown with sunflowers for the 2024/25 season is estimated at 4.9 million hectares.Regarding other oilseed crops, the EU rapeseed harvest is projected at 16.7 million tons, with an average yield of 3 tons per hectare from 5.6 million hectares, representing a 3.3% decline year-on-year. The soybean harvest is expected to reach 2.9 million tons, a slight increase of 0.03%, with an average yield of 2.6 tons per hectare from 1.1 million hectares.
