Onion Supply Expanded as Prices Stabilize in India
Fifth Onion Shipment Brings 720 Tonnes to Delhi on November 21
The Indian government has stepped up its onion distribution efforts by delivering 720 tonnes to Delhi on November 21. This marks the fifth major shipment from Nashik, Maharashtra. Altogether, 4010 tonnes of onions have reached Delhi by rail, priced at USD 0,42 per kg for retail buyers. From the fourth shipment, which delivered 840 tonnes on November 17, 500 tonnes went to Mother Dairy, 190 tonnes to NCCF, and 150 tonnes to Nafed for sale in Delhi-NCR. Officials claim these steady supplies have begun stabilizing onion prices in retail and wholesale markets.
Onion Deliveries Now Cover Additional Cities
The government has expanded onion shipments beyond Delhi. Chennai and Guwahati recently received 840 tonnes each, and Guwahati will get another similar shipment this week. A fresh delivery is also set to reach Lucknow within the next 2–3 days.To meet festival demand and address temporary market closures, cold-stored onions from Sonipat are being distributed across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Delhi.
Bolstering Supply Chains to Meet Demand
Nafed has organized two additional rail shipments for Delhi-NCR and one for Guwahati. Meanwhile, NCCF is preparing another consignment for next week. Road transport has also been ramped up to ensure quicker deliveries and maintain steady availability.Out of the 4.7 million tonnes buffer stock created this year, the government has already released 1.5 million tonnes to stabilize the market.
Conclusion
Onion prices should remain steady as regular supplies continue reaching markets. Buyers should consider making purchases soon, as the government’s proactive measures are likely to prevent significant price drops in the near term.Click here to reach our trading platfrom CMBroker
