Dry Ginger Prices Stable In Most of Indian Markets

Dry Ginger Prices Stable In Most of Indian Markets

Decline in Ginger Wholesale Prices in Kochi Market

The arrival of fresh dry ginger supplies in Kerala has begun. This has led to a slight decrease in the wholesale price. However, there is no expectation for a significant rise in prices in the near future.

In Kerala's Kochi market, the wholesale price of dry ginger has dropped. Prices currently range between $3.25 and $4.33 per kg, depending on the quality. Despite the start of the winter season in North India, demand for dry ginger remains slow. As a result, there is no immediate price increase in sight.

Slow Uptake in North India and Delhi Market

In Delhi, ginger from Bangalore is now arriving at the wholesale fruit and vegetable markets. However, there is still a slowdown in demand. The price of dry ginger recently decreased by $0,06 per kg and is now at $0,42 to $0,45 per kg. A small rise of $0,06 was noted, but the price had previously dropped by $0,36 to $0,42 in recent weeks.

Earlier this year, dry ginger prices peaked at $2,42 to $2,72 per kg, prompting farmers to sell most of their crop. Since then, weaker-than-usual arrivals and reduced availability have kept prices subdued in the market.

Challenges with Supply of Dry Ginger

The availability of ginger for processing into dry ginger remains limited. This has resulted in weak arrivals from key producing states. Stockists are reporting a rise in its sales, but this is attributed to limited availability and rising temperatures rather than increased demand.

The increase in ginger prices earlier was due to attractive price levels, which led farmers to sell 90-95% of their ginger crops. Following a recent drop of $0,30 per kg, the price of dry ginger is currently hovering around $3,50 to $3,62 per kg. Despite the occasional arrival of fresh dry ginger in Kerala, the market remains tight with high prices.

Conclusion

The dry ginger market remains steady, with no significant price changes expected in the near term. Although fresh supplies have arrived in Kerala, weak supply and low demand have maintained stability. As arrivals from regions like Siliguri remain limited, prices are not likely to rise significantly in the coming weeks.
