Stable Indian Peanut Prices as Gulf Demand Fails to Boost Market
Peanut Prices Steady as Demand Remains Low
Peanut prices in India are holding firm, with limited demand keeping the market stable. While buyers from Gulf countries have shown some interest, it hasn’t been enough to influence prices. Traders believe that as Ramadan comes to an end, the current level of demand is unlikely to change significantly.Bold peanuts (40-50 count) are priced at USD 0,94 per kg, while 50-60 count peanuts are at USD 0,92 per kg. Small price changes of around USD 0,012–0,024 per kg may occur in the coming days, but no major shifts are expected.
Factory Closures and Farmer Decisions
In Saurashtra, some peanut processing factories have paused operations due to labor shortages, affecting about 10% of the industry. Meanwhile, roughly half of Gujarat’s peanut crop has already been sold, with 80% of Java TJ-quality peanuts out of farmers' hands. However, many farmers are holding on to their bold peanut stocks, waiting for better prices.Regions like Kutch and Banaskantha have already sent over 80% of their peanut harvests to markets. Stockists have avoided building reserves this year, leaving most of the stock in government storage. To keep prices stable, the government has announced plans to buy 1–1.2 million tonnes of peanuts at the minimum support price (MSP).
Farmers Considering a Shift to Sesame
Many farmers, especially in Gujarat, are still holding on to about 30–40% of their peanuts. In Rajasthan, half of the crop has already reached the market. With prices remaining low this season, some farmers are considering reducing peanut cultivation next year. Sesame, which could offer better returns, is emerging as a strong alternative.Stable Prices Expected in the Short Term
Peanut prices are unlikely to change much in the coming weeks. With most of the crop already in the market and demand subdued, farmers are beginning to adjust their plans for the next season. Shifting focus to sesame could help improve profitability in the future.Click here to reach our trading platfrom CMBroker
