Ukraine’s Grain and Oilseed Sowing Area Likely to Stay Steady
Ukraine’s Grain and Oilseed Crop Distribution
Ukraine’s total sown area for 2025 is expected to exceed 23 million hectares, with cereals making up 48.1% of the total. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, this year’s sowing structure will look almost the same as last year’s.Agriculture Minister Vitaly Koval noted that while there are no major shifts, farmers are making small adjustments. Soybean acreage has dipped slightly, while corn planting has increased. Wheat and sunflower planting will stay at last year’s levels.
Grain Crop Areas for 2025
Farmers plan to sow 5.83 million hectares of spring cereals this year. Corn remains the dominant crop, covering around 4.15 million hectares. Other key grains include:- Spring barley – 790,200 hectares
- Spring wheat – 222,700 hectares
- Peas – 216,500 hectares
- Oats – 161,600 hectares
- Buckwheat – 86,800 hectares
- Millet – 85,500 hectares
Oilseed Sowing Plans
Farmers will allocate 8.89 million hectares to oilseeds, making up 38.7% of Ukraine’s total cultivated land. The key oilseed crops include:- Sunflower – 5.17 million hectares
- Soybeans – 2.42 million hectares
- Spring and winter rapeseed – 1.17 million hectares
Conclusion: A Stable Year Ahead for Ukrainian Agriculture
With farmers sticking to their usual crop choices, Ukraine’s grain and oilseed output should stay fairly stable this year. While small shifts in corn and soybean planting could affect supply, overall production is expected to be in line with previous seasons. That said, global demand and weather conditions will still play a major role in determining actual yields. If weather remains favorable, Ukraine could see another strong harvest. But any unexpected disruptions could impact market trends.
