Dry Ginger Prices Decline as New Stock Hits Kerala Markets

Dry Ginger Prices Decline as New Stock Hits Kerala Markets

Fresh Dry Ginger Arrivals Push Prices Down

Fresh dry ginger has started arriving in Kerala, putting pressure on wholesale prices. Despite the ongoing winter season, there is no indication of a price increase in the coming days. Farmers and traders continue to monitor market trends closely. Currently, only fresh dry ginger from Karnataka is entering the Kerala market, leading to a price drop of USD 2,76 to USD 3,06 per kg, depending on quality, in the Kochi wholesale market.

Slow Demand in North India Keeps Prices Under Pressure

In North India, winter usually boosts demand for ginger, but this year, sales remain sluggish. Even though fresh ginger is arriving from Bangalore to the wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Delhi, sales remain slow, pushing prices down by USD 0,34 to USD 0,37 per kg. This is a slight drop from recent levels, with a decline of USD 0,02 to USD 0,12 per kg observed in recent days. The previous season saw ginger prices skyrocket, reaching a record USD 2,40 to USD 2,70 per kg, leading farmers to sell nearly all of their stock early. As a result, there is now a shortage of ginger available for processing into dry ginger.

Further Declines Expected in the Coming Days

Stockists report an increase in dry ginger sales, but overall arrivals remain weak. Even though fresh dry ginger is sporadically entering Kerala's Kochi market, supply remains insufficient to stabilize prices. The impact is visible in dry ginger rates, which recently dropped by USD 0,24 per kg after an initial fall. Currently, dry ginger prices stand at USD 2,94 to USD 3,06 per kg. With negligible arrivals from other regions like Siliguri, traders do not expect a price recovery in the near future.
