Sharp Decline Follows Drop in Global Sunflower Oil Prices

After several weeks of rising sunflower prices in Ukraine, the market has now shifted direction, with prices declining sharply. This drop follows another decrease in global sunflower oil prices, which has directly impacted domestic demand and purchase rates.

During the week, demand prices for sunflower seeds fell multiple times, with overall declines ranging between USD 8,40 and USD 14,40 per tonne, depending on the region. Buyers significantly reduced their bids as global market conditions weakened.

Regional Price Variations and Market Adjustments

Currently, purchase prices for sunflower seeds range between USD 300 and USD 318 per tonne (CPT), with the highest rates recorded in the western and central regions. However, price trends remain volatile, as oil processing plants continue to assess their stock levels and market conditions.

Market players reported that during the price surge in early January, they were able to accumulate some stocks of oilseeds, yet overall supplies remain insufficient. This stock shortage is limiting the ability of many processing enterprises to operate at full capacity.

Processing Plants Face Supply Challenges

Several sunflower oil processing plants continue to remain idle due to the difficulty of securing enough raw materials. Others are operating at reduced capacity, while some have shifted to soybean processing to compensate for the lack of sunflower seeds.

Despite the price decline, traders expect the market to stabilize in the coming weeks as processors adjust their strategies and global sunflower oil trends dictate further price movements.

With fluctuating demand and stock limitations, sunflower prices may continue to see corrections. However, any potential rebound will depend on global market conditions and the ability of Ukrainian processors to secure adequate raw material supplies.
