Onion Prices Expected to Stay Stable in Saurashtra for Two Weeks

Steady Prices with No Major Market Movement

Onion prices in Saurashtra have remained stable, with daily arrivals in Rajkot ranging between 8,000 to 10,000 kattas. The current price of onions is between USD 0,24 to 0,27/kg. While white onions have yet to reach Rajkot in significant volumes, some arrivals are reported from Gondal and Mahuva.

At present, the onion market shows no signs of a price increase, and traders expect stability for the next 15 days. Exporters have shown interest, with reports of small-scale shipments to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. If export demand increases, it may provide some support to onion prices.

Upcoming New Crop and Favorable Weather Conditions

The arrival of new yellow leaf onions in Gujarat is expected in one month, and the standing crop is reportedly in good condition. No reports of disease or pest infestations have emerged so far. Additionally, the recent cold weather has benefited the crop, supporting expected yields of 300 to 350 maunds per bigha under normal conditions. Even in weaker conditions, the yield is estimated at 280 to 300 maunds per bigha.

Nashik Crop Damage Shifts Demand to Gujarat

In Nashik, 25–30% of the onion crop has been damaged, leading to lower arrivals. As a result, many buyers have turned to Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, boosting local trade. There is good demand from Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. The ongoing Mahakumbh in Gujarat has also impacted onion demand, with support coming from the influx of visitors. However, the temporary demand spike from the Mahakumbh is balanced by a slight dip in other regions, keeping prices stable for now.
