Dragon Fruit Prices Stay High in Tiền Giang as Demand Surges

Strong Market Demand Keeps Dragon Fruit Prices Elevated

Dragon fruit prices in Tiền Giang Province remain high after the Lunar New Year holiday. Strong demand from China and local buyers continues to push prices up.

Farmers are currently harvesting off-season dragon fruit from 4,000 hectares, producing an estimated 30,000 tonnes. In Chợ Gạo District, the largest dragon fruit-growing area, traders are purchasing fruit at USD 0,90 – 1,40 per kg, depending on quality.

The district has 6,600 hectares of dragon fruit farms, yielding 180,000 tonnes annually. Of this, 2,200 hectares follow VietGAP standards, while over 300 hectares meet Global GAP requirements.

Boosting Exports Through Quality Certification

Chợ Gạo District has assigned export-growing area codes to 5,923 hectares. These farms export to China, South Korea, the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Officials are working to increase trade efficiency and improve product quality for international markets.

To support farmers, the People’s Committee of Chợ Gạo is partnering with cooperatives and businesses. The goal is to increase export turnover while overcoming technical trade barriers. The district is also organizing training sessions to teach modern farming techniques based on VietGAP and Global GAP standards.

Expanding Certified Dragon Fruit Farms in Tiền Giang

The Tiền Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reports that the province grows 8,500 hectares of dragon fruit. These farms produce over 255,000 tonnes annually, mainly red-fleshed varieties.

Currently, more than 2,300 hectares meet VietGAP and Global GAP standards. Officials aim to increase this to 3,600 hectares by the end of the year. Expanding certified farms will help improve export quality and boost farmer income.

Conclusion: A Promising Future for Tiền Giang’s Dragon Fruit Industry

Tiền Giang’s dragon fruit industry is thriving due to rising demand and improved farming practices. With the expansion of GAP-certified farms, the region can strengthen its position in international markets.

By investing in training, technology, and trade partnerships, local farmers can ensure sustainable growth. If demand continues to rise, Tiền Giang will remain a leading hub for high-quality dragon fruit exports.
