Indian Wheat Crop Are Stable As Temperature Stays Within Safe Limits
No Major Threats, Wheat Crop Remains Stable
The wheat crop in north-west India is progressing well, with temperatures staying within the safe range. Experts say slight increases in temperature will not impact the yield due to climate-resilient wheat varieties and cool nighttime conditions.Gyanendra Singh, former director of the Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), stated that as long as the minimum temperature remains around 15°C, the crop will stay unaffected. He added that current wheat varieties can tolerate daytime temperatures up to 35°C, ensuring stability.
IMD Predicts Slight Rise in Temperatures
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects a gradual increase of 2-3°C in minimum temperatures across north-west and central India. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures could rise by 1-3°C, especially in Rajasthan, Bihar, and the northeast.Despite this, nighttime temperatures remain below normal in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, helping to balance the effects of daytime heat. The IMD also forecasts a western disturbance, bringing rain and snowfall to Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between February 17-22. Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan may receive light rain during this period.
Record Wheat Crop Sowing In India
Wheat sowing has reached a record 32.44 million hectares, exceeding last year’s 31.83 million hectares. The Indian government aims to produce 115 million tonnes, surpassing last year’s 113.29 million tonnes. Favorable weather and increased acreage support this goal. Conclusion: Steady Crop Expected with Minimal Risks
Rising temperatures may raise concerns, but improved wheat varieties and favorable conditions ensure a stable crop. As long as farmers manage irrigation properly and nighttime cooling continues, the yield should remain strong. However, farmers should watch for unexpected weather shifts and adjust watering schedules if needed.Click here to reach our trading platfrom CMBroker
