Cumin Arrivals Increase in Rajkot as Harvesting Gets Underway

With harvesting of the new cumin crop starting in Rajkot, Gujarat, the fresh cumin arrivals in local mandis is steadily rising. The influx of new stock has now overtaken the availability of older produce, shaping current market trends.

Cumin Prices Drop as Buyers Wait for Market Stability

In Kanjha Mandi, a prominent cumin trading center, daily arrivals of new cumin seeds are now between 6,000 and 7,000 bags. Despite the steady supply, buyers remain cautious, holding back on purchases in anticipation of more stable prices. The softening trend has led many traders to adopt a wait-and-see approach.

As cumin prices continue to drop, stockists are unloading their old inventories. They are keen to avoid potential losses, fearing that prices might decline further. The current market scenario is not favorable for producers, yet many are compelled to sell to maintain liquidity.

Reduced Sowing Area Balanced by Good Weather in Gujarat

This season, Gujarat has seen a reduction in the cumin sowing area compared to last year. However, the impact on production is expected to be minimal due to favorable weather conditions. March and April are traditionally peak months for cumin arrivals, contributing to the current abundance in the market.

The key to stabilizing cumin prices lies in strong domestic and export demand. If demand remains weak, prices may continue to soften in the short term. However, after the peak arrival season, prices could stabilize and show signs of recovery.

What Could Happen to Cumin Prices in the Coming Months?

While the market currently faces a bearish trend, a reduction in sowing and potential declines in productivity could strengthen prices during the off-season. If productivity drops as expected, the market might see a more favorable pricing environment, particularly if demand picks up both domestically and internationally.
