In Rajkot - Gujarat, good-quality onions are currently priced between USD 0,24 to 0,28 per kg, while premium varieties are at USD 0,30 per kg. Supply is tightening, with daily arrivals ranging from 4,000 to 6,500 kattas.

The arrival of new yellow leaf onions is currently around 500 kattas per day and is expected to rise after Holi, with demand likely to increase significantly from March 25.

Key Onion Market Figures

Possible Price Drop as Supply Increases

Market analysts predict that onion prices could fall to USD 0,10 to 0,19 per kg, prompting stockists to begin bulk purchases. By the end of March, prices may decline further to USD 0,06 per kg, driven by increased arrivals.

Yellow leaf onion planting has increased by 15-20% compared to last year, with farmers reporting yields of 250 to 300 maunds per Bhigha, and up to 400 maunds in high-yield areas. However, final yields depend on weather and soil conditions, which remain variable.

Nashik and Gondal Crop Developments

In Nashik, new onion arrivals have started at a slow pace, with a crop and water report expected around Holi. By March 25, arrivals are likely to increase.Meanwhile, Gondal and Mahuva continue to supply white onions, with steady income from these regions.

Limited Export Activity

Although onion exports remain limited, some shipments are occurring to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. While domestic demand remains the main driver, the expected increase in arrivals could further pressure prices in the coming weeks.
