1. Overview: Brazil Remains a Global Oilseeds Powerhouse

Brazil continues to be one of the world's leading producers and exporters of oilseeds in the 2025/26 marketing year. Total oilseed production is estimated at 193 million metric tons (MMT), with soybeans accounting for approximately 90% of the total.

The soybean planted area is expected to expand to 48.2 million hectares, a 2% year-on-year increase. However, this growth is slower than in previous years (five-year average: +5%), due to higher production costs, elevated interest rates, and reduced margins.

2. Soybeans: Production, Processing, and Export

Production and Area Development (5-Year Comparison)

Processing and Domestic Use

  • Soy crush (2025/26): 57 MMT (+1%)
  • Soy oil production: 11.4 MMT
  • Soymeal production: 43.9 MMT
  • Domestic demand driven by biodiesel blending mandate (currently B14; B15 delayed to 2026)

Export Performance (5-Year Comparison)

3. Peanuts: Area Expansion and Processing

Peanut oil exports 2025/26: 174,000 tons – Main destinations: China, USA, Italy

4. Cottonseed: Rise as a By-product of Cotton

5. Palm Oil: Sustainability Focus and Modest Growth

6. Conclusion

All major oilseed segments in Brazil continue to show growth potential. Soybeans remain the core driver, while peanuts and cottonseed show notable expansion. Challenges such as high financing costs, infrastructure bottlenecks, and environmental regulations remain but could be mitigated by targeted investments in sustainability, logistics, and innovation.
