India's Mustard Production Likely to Fall to 1.10 Million Tonnes
India's Mustard Production Yields in Key States
Despite a slight increase in the sown area, mustard production in India during the 2024β25 season is likely to fall short due to unusually high temperatures during the cropβs crucial growth phase. Farmers and traders estimate total output to reach 1.10β1.11 million metric tonnes, which is 0.7β0.8 million tonnes less than last year. While sowing in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan increased by around 1.5 lakh hectares compared to last year, temperatures during January 15 to March 28 were reportedly 8β10Β°C higher than normal. This resulted in shorter plant height and weaker grain development inside the pods.
As per surveys so far, Rajasthan is expected to produce around 4.8 million tonnes, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 1.4 million tonnes and Uttar Pradesh at 1.6 million tonnes. A crop seminar organized by the UP Millers Association in Agra is expected to release final figures soon.
Estimated Mustard Production by State
Currently, daily arrivals across the country are around 1.4 million bags, and carryover stock from last year is estimated at 1.1 million tonnes. This brings total availability (new + old) to around 1.21β1.22 million tonnes. In the local markets of Rajasthan, mustard is selling loose at USD 0,64β0,67 per kg. Mustard with 42% oil content is fetching USD 0,73 per kg, and mustard oil is being traded at USD 1,53 per kg (excluding GST) in Jaipur.
Despite the good availability, traders believe that prices are unlikely to fall sharply due to healthy demand and limited downside. A minor correction of USD 0,02 per kg may occur, but overall sentiment remains stable to firm.
