India’s Coffee Exports Surge, Crossing USD 1,54 Billion

Record Coffee Prices Boost India's Coffee Export Earnings to Over USD 1,54 Billion

Indian coffee producers are enjoying significant earnings as global coffee prices reach record highs, driving exports substantially higher. India's coffee exports surged over 40%, crossing USD 1,54 billion during the April–February period of fiscal year 2024-25, compared to USD 1,10 billion the previous year. In February alone, exports rose by 22% to USD 178,68 million compared to USD 146,08 million last year.

Export Performance (April-February 2024-25):

European Markets Lead Coffee Imports

Italy remains India's largest coffee buyer, accounting for 19,01% of total exports, followed by Germany (12,42%), Russia (5,76%), Belgium (5,76%), and the UAE (5,55%). The United States ranks sixth, importing 4,05% of India's total coffee exports.

Top Importers of Indian Coffee (April-December 2024):

Robust Demand for Premium Varieties

India, the world’s seventh-largest coffee producer and fifth-largest exporter, continues to experience rising global demand, especially from European markets. Adverse weather in Brazil and Vietnam, the two largest producers, has tightened global supplies, significantly elevating coffee prices.

Despite a decline in overall export volumes in the January–March period to 85,007 tonnes from 95,360 tonnes year-over-year, rising prices have boosted export earnings. Premium Arabica coffee shipments notably surged, rising 64% to 17,021 tonnes during this period, up from 10,365 tonnes the previous year.

These favorable market conditions, driven by strong international demand for premium Indian coffee, are anticipated to sustain export growth in the coming months.
