India’s Fennel Prices May Rise Sharply on Lower Output

India’s Fennel Prices May Shoot Up Due to 30% Drop in Production

India’s fennel prices will increase in future as production is expected to decline sharply this year. With traders estimating a 30% drop due to unfavorable weather conditions across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Early summer, delayed winter, and inadequate rainfall during crucial crop stages have severely impacted productivity.

In Rajasthan’s Barmer and Jodhpur belts, fennel crops have been hit by early temperature spikes. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch and Ratlam regions saw poor weather alignment—no rain when needed, and summer arrived early. Gujarat traders also reported a decline in yield due to climatic shifts.

Low Sowing and Old Stock Exhaustion

Farmers have sown less fennel this season due to losses in previous years. Many traders in Unjha, Bikaner, and Delhi reduced their old stock holdings, anticipating limited gains. Now, with both old stock running low and new crop output affected, market supply remains tight.

Fennel from Uttar Pradesh also saw reduced growth as early summer impacted plant development. The drop in production is expected to support higher prices in the coming months.

Consumption Support and Market Sentiment

Demand from pickling industries has increased by 7–8%, further tightening availability. Traders believe that the current price rise is just the beginning. With the supply shortage becoming more evident, a quick gain of USD 0,60 per kg is anticipated in the coming weeks.

Stockists are advised to take positions during small price corrections, as fennel is likely to trend upward due to supply constraints and improved consumption.
