India’s Coffee Exports Cross USD 1.8 Billion, Exceed Targets

India’s Coffee Exports Cross USD 1.8 Billion, Exceed Targets

Global Demand and Higher Prices Push India’s Coffee Exports to Record High

India’s coffee exports have crossed the government’s target for the third consecutive year, reaching USD 1.816 billion in FY2024-25. This marks a 46% jump from last year’s USD 1.286 billion. According to data from the Coffee Board, India shipped a total of 389,000 tonnes of coffee, up 1.56% from the previous year. This performance reflects a doubling of export value since 2020-21, when India exported just USD 735 million worth of coffee.

European countries—particularly Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Russia—continue to be major buyers of Indian coffee. With global supplies tightening due to production issues in Brazil and Vietnam, international buyers are increasingly turning to India to diversify sourcing.

Premium Coffee Varieties Boost Export Value

Over the past three to four years, India's coffee production has remained steady at 350,000 tonnes, helping meet rising export demands. The focus on value-added and premium coffees has also played a key role in boosting earnings.

Coffee Exporters Association President Ramesh Rajah said that higher global prices and better shipment of plantation grades helped achieve these numbers. However, he also noted that production levels have stagnated, and unless they rise, matching future demand could become difficult.

Production Stability Key to Future Growth

CEO of the Coffee Board, K.G. Jagadeesha, emphasized that rising consumption post-COVID and consistent output have supported the surge in exports. While India is now the fifth-largest coffee exporter globally, future success will depend on expanding production and maintaining quality.
