India’s Rice Export Price Drops To Lowest Level Since June 2023

India’s 5% Broken Rice Falls Sharply

India’s rice export price has dropped to the lowest point since June 2023. During the past week, the export price of 5% broken white rice from India declined to USD 0,40–0,41 per kg, down from USD 0,43–0,41 the previous week.

According to traders, this drop reflects weaker global demand paired with ample domestic and international supply. “Buyers are moving cautiously and even postponing purchases, hoping for further price drops,” one Indian trader explained.

India recently resumed 100% broken rice exports in early March 2025 after a ban that started in September 2022. While this has added more volume to global availability, it has also intensified competition in the international market.

Thai Export Prices Stable But Under Pressure

In Thailand, the price for 5% broken rice stayed relatively stable around USD 0,41 per kg, maintaining a two-year low. However, traders noted that the export pace has slowed due to muted demand.

Currency fluctuations also played a role in limiting price movement, while consistent supply continues to put a ceiling on any price recovery. "The market is extremely quiet. Thai exporters are facing stiff competition from India and Vietnam, which will make 2025 a difficult year," a Thai trader said.

With high stocks and soft demand, rice prices across Asia may remain under pressure in the short term. Buyers appear content to wait for better deals, adding further caution to the export market.
